What is an PTA Test?
Pure Tone Audiometry (PTA) is a hearing test used to measure a person’s ability to hear sounds at different frequencies (pitches) and volumes (intensities). It is one of the most common and reliable hearing assessments performed by audiologists to identify the degree, type, and configuration of hearing loss.

HOW DOES THE PTA TEST WORK?
Step 1
The audiologist explains the procedure and ensures the patient is comfortable. The test is conducted in a quiet, sound-treated room.
Step 2
The patient wears headphones and listens to pure tones at different frequencies and volume levels. They respond whenever they hear a sound.
Step 3
A small vibrating device is placed behind the ear to determine whether hearing loss originates from the outer/middle ear or the inner ear.
Step 4
The hearing thresholds are recorded on an audiogram. The audiologist analyzes the results to identify the degree and type of hearing loss and discusses the findings with the patient.
